ATTORNEY PROFILE

Jeremy Friedman’s practice includes commercial litigation, real estate law, trademark law, contract negotiations and corporate law, criminal defense, plaintiffs' civil rights litigation, arbitration, mediation, and appellate work.  He handles matters independently, through the firm Friedman Law, P.C., and also in collaboration with other small firms.

He has extensive experience in litigation, where his work has produced successful outcomes in numerous civil cases for plaintiffs (obtaining substantial monetary recoveries) and defendants (obtaining dismissals of cases and favorable settlements).  These cases have involved alleged breaches of contract, real estate disputes, trademark infringement, negligence, construction defects, civil rights violations, and other claims.  Successful outcomes have been achieved at trial, as well as unanimous appellate victories, and also via settlement.  In addition to having successfully briefed and argued appeals, he has drafted a brief in opposition to a petition for certiorari, which resulted in the United States Supreme Court's denial of certiorari, after the Court had previously requested a response to the petition.  Additionally, he has had extensive success in trademark proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  He has also successfully drafted and negotiated real estate and business agreements.  He has worked to vindicate the Constitutional rights of indigent criminal defendants.  In one case, his post-trial representation of an indigent defendant ultimately led to the reversal of a wrongful homicide conviction, after prosecution witnesses recanted their trial testimony and law enforcement protocols were violated.

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Friedman served as a law clerk for the Honorable Eric L. Clay, on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, in Detroit, Michigan.

Mr. Friedman graduated from Columbia University School of Law, achieving honors as a James Kent Scholar and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and serving as Managing Editor of Columbia Science & Technology Law Review.  His Note, “Prying Eyes in the Sky: Visual Aerial Surveillance of Private Residences as a Tort” was published and is available online at https://journals.library.columbia.edu/index.php/stlr/article/view/3627/1454 (citable as: Jeremy Friedman, Note, Prying Eyes in the Sky: Visual Aerial Surveillance of Private Residences as a Tort, 4 Colum. Sci. & Tech. L. Rev. 1, 25 (2002-2003)).

He graduated from Harvard College, magna cum laude, and gained experience in media and telecommunications law, working for almost two years as a Research Analyst at a Washington, D.C. boutique law firm.

He is admitted to practice law in state courts and federal courts, at the trial and appellate levels, in the State of California and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
